Description
The Tascam HD-P2 is an excellent professional solution for the challenging requirements of live and on-location recording applications. It writes uncompressed Broadcast Wave audio files at up to 192-kHz/24-bit resolution for audiophile quality to CompactFlash or Microdrive media. Files are instantly available through the built-in high-speed FireWire computer interface and can be loaded into digital audio workstations with sample accuracy.

Unlike a host of other consumer MP3 sketchpads the professional HD-P2 incorporates high-end features like SMPTE timecode and clock input for synchronization to video recorders or other external devices in either record or playback modes. Balanced microphone inputs are presented on XLR connectors and phantom power is also provided along with a 20dB pad. The stereo line inputs and outputs are unbalanced and presented on RCA connectors. A built-in limiter helps to curb unpredictable variations in level during live events. The user interface has been designed for fast and intuitive use under stressful one-take-only situations aided by its large angled LCD. Typical uses for the HD-P2 would include news gathering and reporting, location film and TV production, specialist and sound effects gathering and generic portable recording of shows and concerts.

Recording time is dictated by the size of CompactFlash card used and the recording resolution established. Typically a 4Gb card set up to record at 48K/16 bit will give just over 6 hours recording time. Similarly the same card set up to record at 192k/24 bit will give 1 hour of recording time.
